OCEA Commuter 108 New : construction continues

In the summer of 2021 OCEA began building its tenth motoryacht. The boat will offer ocean-going capacities and comfort while limiting her carbon footprint.

She adopts the famous streamlined, timeless and elegant profile of OCEA Commuters. Like all OCEA yachts, the Commuter 108 New is entirely custom-made to meet the shipowner’s specifications regarding material, layout, interior design and equipment. With five watertight compartments, this 32.70-metre ocean-going aluminium yacht will be capable of sailing all around the world in optimal safety conditions. Special work has gone into controlling her carbon footprint: thus she will be the first OCEA yacht whose engines comply with the latest IMO Tier III standards for reducing pollutant emissions. That will allow her to travel freely through the Emission Control Areas designated by the International Maritime Organization, notably near the North American coasts, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Make the most of the environment

Particular care has been taken with the sound insulation to ensure that the eight guests can enjoy the ocean in complete serenity on this yacht that has been designed for family holidays. The exhaust filters fitted to meet the IMO Tier III standard mitigate the sound of the engine by 35dB. The yacht will also be equipped with the latest generation of batteries to keep the main on-board comfort features running at night without the need for generators.

The interior layout has been entrusted to Pierre Frutschi. Showing his true sailor instincts, the designer has concocted a superb decor that is both practical and distinctively of the sea. To get the utmost benefit out of all the on-board tenders, the yacht has a comfortable wide-access platform at the rear, with direct access to a huge lazarette. The large 1.5 tone MCA-approved crane can lift tenders into the water even in the most difficult conditions.

Nearly turning time

As soon as the contract was signed, OCEA’s engineering team designed all the structural components and sent files to the subcontractor handling the cutting. These were quickly delivered to OCEA’s workshop in Fontenay-le-Comte, where assembly immediately got under way. Construction has remained on schedule since then. All the frames, partitions and longitudinals are now in place and the site is preparing to fit the plating. Once the hull has been turned, the vessel will be transported as an oversized load to OCEA’s fitting-out workshop in Les Sables-d’Olonne. Delivery is scheduled for Spring 2023, with the first journey set for the following summer.
